Hello · start here
Hello. This is a new lab.
If you followed a link here expecting the PourX company page, you've found something different: an independent, non-commercial reference on brewing coffee at home, built around measurement.
What used to be here
Older coffee articles — in English and Japanese — link to this address because it was the website of PourX. Based on published reports:
- PourX was described by Daily Coffee News in June 2020 as a Taiwan-based company founded in November 2019 by Jimmy Chen.
- Its first product was the Oura, a pour-over coffee scale with an LED-lit edge that changes color and pattern to guide each stage of a brew, plus a companion app for sharing recipes and graphing pours.
- The scale was crowdfunded: a Kickstarter campaign was underway in mid-2020, and a Japanese campaign on Makuake ran from May 24 to August 5, 2022, listing 551 supporters.
- Media roundups, including Home Grounds' list of crowdfunded coffee products and Daily Coffee News' review of 2020 home equipment, featured the scale.
Many of the Japanese-language links date from the 2022 Makuake campaign. Its page names uDesign, an e-commerce platform run by uniicreative Co., Ltd. in Taiwan, as the project executor and exclusive Japan distributor until rewards were delivered, and lists early-bird prices against a regular price of ¥25,900. Questions about units bought then belong with those sellers, not with this site.
The domain later lapsed and was registered by a new owner. pourxlab.com is not affiliated with PourX, Abilliant, or the domain's previous owner, sells nothing, and cannot help with orders, warranties or app support for any product. A fuller, sourced note is in coffee scales explained.
What's here now
The lab covers the questions a light-guided scale was trying to answer: how much coffee, how much water, how fast to pour, and when to stop. Instead of a device, it uses published numbers. The Specialty Coffee Association — the trade body formed in 2017 when the American and European specialty coffee associations merged — recommends about 55 g of coffee per liter of water and water at about 200°F. Those two figures are the backbone of every page.

How the lab writes
Every page is written fresh, in a neutral voice, from sources we have opened and linked: standards bodies, university research, competition organizers and encyclopedic references. We do not review products, run taste tests or publish testimonials. When a source is uncertain or two sources disagree, the page says so.
If you are used to following recipes on a scale app, the closest thing here is the pulse-pour recipes on the recipes page — written in grams and seconds so you can follow them with any scale and timer.
